Open Letter to Congress regarding Section 230 for Big Tech Monopolies and Bias

To the Honorable: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, President of Senate Mike Pence, and Congress.

US Capitol

First St SE, Washington, DC 20004

This open letter is regarding Section 230 of the 47 U.S. Code. As the 1st Amendment of the Constitution only covers government infringement protection. However, I am highly concerned over the monopoly that Big Tech (Silicon Valley) has over the American public. As you know there are a handful of companies that control Social Media and Search. With a lack of competition, there is a very narrow controlled flow of information.

These companies control the narrative, and with such market shares, this is detrimental to the American People. While they are private companies, they also have a responsibility to either allow free speech – unless it breaks the laws, or application across all platforms of consistent application of policies. We have seen over the recent days the silencing of any person, group, or network that voices opposition to the Left.

These companies will pick and choose who they want on their platforms, yet leave others. You can see President Trump has been removed from all platforms, yet the leaders of Iran and North Korea have their accounts in order.

Having lack of competition and bias in the areas of Social Media and Search impact our republic. It creates a narrative controlled by few. We know that Google, Facebook, and Twitter have a great impact on the outcome of elections and other events that cause a negative impact on the moral of the American People. Allowing posts for months about looting, rioting and injustice – helping people come together for these illegal events. Now because of one event, anyone that opposes Democrats are being removed.

You will also see 3 companies had the ability to shut down Parlor. This is to the point of this letter, we either need to open up competition and get rid of the monopoly. Or we need to have regulation of policies across the spectrum. These companies control too much information and its flow. I would suggest amending to allow for open speech, unless said speech breaks federal law, or consistency across all platforms. If these companies do not comply, remove all Section 230 protections.

Sincerely,
